In short

Commercial sweeping uses a machine with a rotating brush, an onboard hopper and a filtered vacuum to lift dust, grit, sand, leaf litter and packaging off a floor or hardstand — removing it rather than redistributing it the way a broom does. We sweep warehouses, car parks, yards and access roads across South East Queensland on contract.

A sweeper removes what a broom redistributes.

A machine sweeper works in three parts. A cylindrical main brush rotating against the direction of travel flicks loose material up and back into a hopper; side brushes reach into kerbs, wall lines and corners and feed debris into the main brush path; and a vacuum pulls air through a filter so the fine fraction is captured rather than thrown back out.

That third part is the one that matters. Dry sweeping by hand lifts the visible debris and puts the respirable dust straight back into the air, where it settles on racking, stock and people. A filtered machine takes it off site.

We size the machine to the surface and the access: a walk-behind for tight aisles and trading hours, a ride-on for open warehouse floors and yards, a truck-mounted unit for car parks, estate roads and long runs of hardstand.

Where sweeping does the most work

Warehouse and DC floors

Aisles, pick faces and dock aprons. Removing grit daily is what stops it being ground into the sealed surface and lifted back onto stock.

Car parks and hardstand

Leaf litter, packaging, silt in gutters and the sand that collects against kerbs. Also the pass we run before line marking or resealing.

Yards and access roads

Transport yards, container areas and estate roads, where debris on the ground becomes debris on the public road the moment a truck drives over it.

Sweeping questions we get asked

How often should a warehouse be swept?

It depends on traffic more than area. A busy DC with constant forklift and truck movement needs weekly attention; a low-traffic store or workshop sits comfortably at monthly. We would rather set a frequency after walking the site than guess at it.

Will sweeping raise dust through the building?

Not with a filtered machine. The vacuum and filter are the difference between sweeping and shifting dust around — it is the reason we do not use brooms on sites with food, pharmaceutical or respirable-dust obligations.

Can you sweep while we are operating?

Yes. A walk-behind is quiet enough for trading hours, and on warehouse sites we plan the pass order with your supervisor so the machine and the forklifts stay out of each other’s aisles.
